In the Palm of the Hand: Belonging and Imagination in the Anthropocene – Wed 11th Dec 1.00-2.00pm, Multi-Faith Centre – led by Dr Jamie Bird in MFC. This talk will explore how awareness of environmental catastrophe and climate crisis generate strong and complex emotions. It will outline those feelings using creative methods, in a way that provides a foundation for bringing people together to imagine different futures.
Reconnecting with Nature to Cope with Climate Uncertainty – Mon 16th Dec 7.00-9.00pm, One Friar Gate Square, Derby Campus, One Friar Gate Square, Agard Street, Derby DE1 1DZ – This is the third of a series of four events about climate change science and action hosted by the Environmental Sustainability Research Centre, in collaboration with local partners. We welcome Professor David Sheffield and Dr Jamie Bird, from the University of Derby, and Lor Bird, a visual artist working locally. David will give an overview of how people connect to nature most effectively and why that is important in our current climate, and Jamie and Lor will support you to create works of art expressing your relationship to nature. There will be plenty of opportunity for questions and discussion throughout the evening. Come and enjoy a different way of celebrating and reflecting on the turning of the year.
