MFC's fascinating Springtime 'Encounters' series saw visits to Derby's Arjan Dev Sikh Gurdwara; Geeta Bhawan Hindu Temple; Ukranian Catholic Church; Jamia Masjid Mosque; Kings Bromley Wat Mahathat Buddhist Temple; the Nottingham Liberal Synogogue; and the Bah'ai Faith at the MFC. These successful visits were kindly and generously hosted by representatives from each of the different faiths/places of worship.

Enthused from their experiences the visiting group from MFC voted to organise a follow-on 'Encounters' event on Tuesday 12th July, where old and new friends met for further exploration, sharing a late tea with wonderful cakes and savouries.

They looked at the similarities and differences of these places of worship, as well as how to improve inter-faith dialogue, and wholeheartedly agreed that a focus on common humanity could be key to building bridges with and within faith communities.

These are a few contemplations coming out of an enjoyable evening together:

For evil to triumph, good people do/say nothing…

Befriend. Sit with…walk alongside…

There is danger in generalisation…

Gather, communicate, encourage…

Experience another's ways…

It takes time to appreciate another's ideas…

Hate doesn't drive out hate. Only love…

Outreach. Offer experience, break food together...

Finding new, non-threatening ways for communication…

Respect is essential.
