The Multi-Faith Centre is committed to quality youth work practice. We work directly with young people through a range of activities and we create a positive, safe space for practitioners in youth work to share good practice. Within both these roles we deliver training, organise events and advocate for young people, communities and the youth work sector.
The Youth Workers Forum is a place for Youth Workers and those who work with young people to come to discuss and take action around youth work in predominately Derby but not excluding Derbyshire. The group has a focus on “Passion, Practice and Voice”. This emerged from a consultation with youth workers regarding what they would like to see from such a network. Practitioners wanted a space where they could become re-enthused for the work or share with like-minded workers their passion for Youth Work. Practitioners were looking for a space where they could share good practice and access quality training. Finally, practitioners wanted to provide a voice for youth work and highlight how important a profession it is. In order to achieve this we hope to build relationships with local councils, media and Higher Education Institutions as well as national bodies like the National Youth Agency (NYA) and In Defence of Youth Work.
We meet bi-monthly and try to set the themes of meetings across the three areas of passion, practice and voice. We ask that people who attend leave their organisations at the door and enter as practitioners. By doing this we hope to produce a reflective place to develop best practice, build networks and promote young people.

THE CLUB opened in January 2013 in response to several issues in the local area including a rise in anti-social behaviour, fly tipping and damage to properties. 77 young people registered on the first night and since then our average night continues to welcome more than 60 young people. THE CLUB offers space for sports in an upstairs gym; music and art downstairs, and also other space for socialising, including a coffee bar area.
THE CLUB runs on Tuesday nights, from 6 – 8pm and on Wednesdays from 4.30pm – 6.30pm. The age group is from 11-18 years old and is based at Peartree Baptist Church, 154 Peartree Road, Derby, DE23 6QD
THE CLUB strives to work in close partnership with other agencies and has recently worked with Derby County Football Club, the Police, Spiral Arts and the University of Derby.
We are encouraging young people to take more of a direct role in the running of THE CLUB and our organisation. Young people contribute to and help shape what activities are delivered; we have nominated club leaders, offer training and volunteering opportunities for the older members of the group and regularly consult the young people on how we’re doing.
THE CLUB is currently engaging predominately Roma heritage young people but is open to young people of all backgrounds. We are encouraging more nationalities to attend and as more nationalities are taking part in THE CLUB’s activities, it is hoped that it will be an environment where barriers between different communities are broken down, and there can be continued celebration in diversity.
If you would like more information on THE CLUB or would like to know more about the activities that we are currently developing please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Please contact Ruth Richardson on firstname.lastname@example.org
