Join us as we explore what it means to hold space, and the importance of self care for those creating safe spaces and caring for others.
Holding space is not something that is exclusive to facilitators, coaches, or care professionals. It is something that many of us do without even thinking about it.
Author Heather Plett describes Holding space as ‘the practice of compassionately witnessing, accepting, and supporting someone without judgement, while retaining your boundaries and sense of self.’ The act of creating a safe, accepting environments, engaging in attentive listening and offering non-judgmental support can have detrimental effects on the self if provision is not made for good self-care. During this session we’ll explore ways to prioritise wellbeing and self-care, recognising and honouring your own needs and boundaries first, so that you can be of service to the world around as you hold space either personally, or professionally.
For this session we are delighted to welcome Assistant Psychologist Ikra Quamar from the NHS Community Quality Conversations Team. Who will be sharing practical ways women can pay attention to their needs and incorporating simple methods of self care within their busy lives.
The Women in Faith Network is a friendly, welcoming forum for Women of Faith from across Derby to come together to discuss issues which affect them. It is a supportive, nurturing, inspirational space where women can network, share experiences, learn from best practice, and find inspiration to continue the valuable work they do within their communities and workplaces throughout the city.
This event is open to all women of faith, and free to attend. Booking is required.
A light vegetarian buffet and refreshments will be served on arrival.
